Gattung Brotia H. Adams, 1866
Range:
Found from South-East Asia, the foot of the Himalaya over north-eastern India over Bangladesh to Myanmar, Thailand, the Malaysian peninsula, Sumatra, Java and Borneo.
Habitat:
Mostly in narrow, clear mountain brooks, a few also in rivers
Some species can only be found in their special habitats.
In a river or river systems.
(Glaubrecht & Khler, 2004).
Reproduction:
Brotias are dioecious. The male inseminates the female by passing a spermatophor, the young snails grow in a breeding sac.
Food:
Depending on the species (please refer to the species profiles) they accept different foods. They eat artificially made food but also vegetables. Giving them powedered food can be of advantage.
Additional information:
Most Brotia species are not compatible with a community tank and need dedicated aquariums especially set up for their needs. Only Brotia herculea and, to some extent, B. henriettae proved to be robust and suitable for aquairums.
I'd also like to hint to the sponsoring program of Humboldt University here.
