Description:

Shell:           -  18 to 55 mm long, 13 - 26 mm wide.

                             - dark brown, cone-shaped, thick-walled, 5 whorls, narrow suture

                           - hollow thorns in spiralling rows

                           - apex mostly broken/corroded

                           - ovoid to teardrop-shaped aperture, pointed at the base

                           - shell interior greyish to creme-colored, sometimes fine brown bands are visible

Operculum :             - central nucleus with 6 - 8 enlarging rings

( Operculum)           - smaller than the aperture

   The smooth shell of the embryos is 1- 6 mm in size and consists of 4 quickly increasing whorls

Range/Habitat:

- Thailand, Moei River and its tributary (Border river between Thailand and Myanmar)

- Thailand, Kaamphaeng Phet province, Moei River, 30 km south of Mae Sot,

-  Thailand, Kaamphaeng Phet province, river close to Mae Sot

Climatic zone: tropical alternating climate, cooler mountain regions, on plains of woody mountainous lands,

                   surrounded by rice and cotton fields

                 -  high temperatures all year round, summer precipitation (rainy season from April to October)

                 - winters with no or hardly any precipitation

Area around   Kaamphaeng Phet / annual average temperature of 27.1 °C, monsoon climate in summer

Substrate:  - prefers stones/hard substrates

Life span:
Unfortunately, the editor does not have any data regarding the life span of these snails.

Food:

Aquarium: - powdered food, food tablets, vegetables, muck, possibly a filter feeder (?)

Nature: - Algae and microbial growth

When feeding on powdered food this snail hangs in the stream and gathers food particles. According to observant aquarists Spirulina powder moves along the groove on the left side of the foot and is then ingested (filter feeder?). The aquarium – requirements and necessities:

- needs moving water with a high oxygen content

- water temperatures of 20 – 25 °C

- stone structures and a little sand

- tank front length starting at 60 cm

 - muck and algae, possibly zoo- and phytoplancton

Socialization:

- other Brotia species, common river snails (Viviparidae), Ancylus fluviatilis, nerite snails, Planorbidea and Cerithoidea

- small armoured catfish

 - small populations of dwarf shrimp

- not with Radix sp.

Particularity:

Older snails are a lot less active than younger ones. 

Feeding powdered food increases their agility.

Not digging in the substrate
