Range: Indonesia, Indo-Pacific, Sunda Islands ,Japan. Was brought to Florida (Lachner et.al., 1970; Dundee, 1974), Texas, USA as well as Central and South America (Jacobson, 1978; Chaniotis et.al. , 1980; Chaniotis et.al. , 1980). Habitat: - quick-flowing freshwater rivers, brackish waters, in small ponds, large puddles, shallow brooks with gravel substrate and waterfalls. Reproduction: -dioecious - parthenogenetic, - viviparous. After about 3 months, with a relative size of 6 mm, they reach adulthood. Food: - algae - rotting plant parts, carrion and diatoms. In the aquarium it takes any kind of food tablet. Behavior: - burrower Parasites: In nature it is assumed to be an alternate host for various cercaria, whose final host are mammals and, among these, humans.
